The Vijayanagar Club has been a symbol of recreation, friendship, and community spirit for over four decades. From humble beginnings with just 100 members to becoming one of Bengaluru’s respected social clubs, the club’s journey reflects dedication, perseverance, and continuous growth.
The idea of Vijayanagar Club was conceived by distinguished administrators, legal professionals, and respected citizens of Vijayanagar, including Shri S.B. Muddappa and Shri C. Chikkanna. Their vision was to establish a premium recreational club that would bring together government officials, industrialists, professionals, and residents under one roof.
After extensive planning, the club’s constitution and bylaws were finalized on 15 January 1983, laying the foundation for a lasting institution.
15 August 1983 marked a significant milestone as Vijayanagar Club was officially inaugurated on India’s Independence Day.
Operating from a rented premises in RPC Layout, the club welcomed its first 100 members. Though modest in size, the facilities included:

Soon after its inauguration, the club faced one of its toughest moments when an accidental fire destroyed the temporary thatched-roof badminton court.
Despite this setback, the unwavering support of members ensured that the club continued its journey, turning adversity into an opportunity for growth.
A major breakthrough came when the club’s need for a permanent home was discussed in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
Recognizing the importance of the institution, the then Hon’ble Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde sanctioned a Civic Amenity (CA) site for the club.
Construction soon began, and on 15 August 1986, exactly three years after its inauguration, Vijayanagar Club proudly shifted to its own permanent premises, beginning a new chapter of expansion and development.
Vijayanagar Club soon established itself as a prominent sporting venue.
One of its proudest achievements was hosting a major State-Level Badminton Tournament that featured internationally acclaimed badminton legend Prakash Padukone, adding a significant chapter to the club’s sporting history.

Today, under the leadership of President H.C. Gopal, Vijayanagar Club proudly celebrates over 40 years of excellence, continuing its legacy of friendship, recreation, and community service.
